The Digital Nomad Visa - A residency gamechanger for Brits wanting to live in Spain

After a long time waiting and a lot of deliberating, Spain finally passed the amendment to the law (last year) to allow remote workers to apply for residency in Spain. What does this mean for you? Let´s look at the criteria for applying:

Are you a remote worker? First things first, you must be able to work from a computer. Your work, be it IT consultant or Digital Marketeer, must be something you can do remotely.

Do you make a salary of over 30K (euros)? Yes, you need to make this comfortably (as an individual), and if you have a spouse and dependent children you will need to show more on top of this in terms of earnings or savings.

Do you have a work contract and salary payments for over 3 months for a company that has been active for over a year? The Spanish government requires a work contract and corresponding salary and national insurance payments.

Do you have a degree in the field you work in OR do you have more than 3 years experience? You will have to show that you are qualified in one of these ways for the job you are doing online.

So If the answer to these questions is yes, you could be eligible for the Digital Nomad Visa. And if you are, you could pay only 24% tax on income.

There are other factors of course such as "What if I own my own company?" "What happens to my taxes?" "Can I get healthcare in Spain?" And many more questions.
